Portsmouth alt-rockers Summoners have released brand new single "Spite", a fuzz-driven, atmospheric track effortlessly blending rock with groove. 2025 sees the band aiming for a breakout year; this track is a massive step in the right direction.
A short synth section opens the track up, with punching drums adding depth. Dark, heavy guitars soon come in, balancing groove with chugging, and it's not long before the track gives off major Nine Inch Nails vibes.
The instrumentation is appropriately dark, hitting the sweet spot between alt rock and dance track. It sounds like the soundtrack to an early 2000s horror film in the best possible way - if the upcoming Final Destination film is looking for any tracks for its end credits, here's a pretty good shout.
The angsty vocals add a raw edge to the track, and by the time the brief solo / interlude section hits, you're immersed in the groove.
It's a short track, coming in at just under three minutes, but the band make full use of the run time. This is DIY punk energy wrapped in a really tight, refined studio recording. The band's influences are very much worn on their sleeves, but there is still plenty to appeal to longtime fans of the genre.
