Godeth (/ God-eth) are one of the finest new bands to come out of the Leeds metal scene, quickly rising to prominence. Latest track "Fleshmonger" sees the quintet start the year off on an incredibly strong note, delivering groove-laden death metal goodness.
I had the pleasure of speaking to members of the band about the track, the writing process, and the band's plans for the next 12 months.
R: How would you try and sell Godeth to your one relative who absolutely hates metal?
Jimmy [bassist]: I wouldn't push it on anyone who I think wouldn't like it.
Dylan [rhythm guitarist]: By guilt tripping them ... relentlessly.
Luke [lead guitarist]: Funny story, I did this on boxing day and my uncle replied with "I guess someone somewhere likes this."
"We managed to conjure the full track more or less in a couple of hours, which for us was a great feeling"
How did the band start?
J: I wasn't there, but I know it involves fire and ice... Jokes aside, I joined by crowd surfing too much so they let me play bass.
D: Me and [our drummer] Dan went to the same school, but never spoke really. Dan put on his socials he wanted to start a band, and so a couple of weeks later Godeth was born.
L: I was in another band and was offered the position of lead guitar. Much to my surprise they were great, so I joined.
What are some of your biggest influences?
J: For me, it would be Rage Against The Machine and Incendiary.
D: Depends on what day you ask. But today ... Rammstein, Alice in Chains and Type O Negative.
L: Bullet For My Valentine, Pvris and Dream State, who we actually played with not too long ago, a dream come true for me.

You've released new track FLESHMONGER today. Can you tell me a bit about the track? What inspired it?
D: So it was the first song/riff I wrote on my new Jackson, I wanted to write something more melodic than we had done before. I took the riff to the guys and we managed to conjure the full track more or less in a couple of hours, which for us was a great feeling. It came very naturally.
"My uncle replied with 'I guess someone somewhere likes this'"
You played Bloodstock in 2023, which must have been an excellent experience. How did that come about?
J: We won [Bloodstock competition] Metal 2 The Masses in Leeds, it was truly one of the best experiences of my life so far.
D / L: What he said.
Where have you got your sights set next?
J: We're currently working towards an album. We have a lot of material to work with, it's a case of when the time is right.
D: We have loads of shows already booked for the year and we're wanting to book even more, try and play in new places where we haven't played before.
L: To write the best songs we're capable of!
What do you think the biggest discussion point will be for underground / DIY bands in 2025?
J: I think the biggest topic will be the lack of local music venues. With a venue closing down pretty much everyday, it's a hard time for bands and creatives.
D: AI, and whether to use it. For me and the band, we're totally against the use of it in music. We found this out the hard way as the original artwork [for "Fleshmonger"] was created using AI without us knowing, so we had to change it [last minute]. Support real art and artists!
L: How Godeth won against the odds.
